The Auto Theft Squad of East District Police has cracked four vehicle theft cases with the arrest of a thief accused of stealing two-wheelers across East and South-East Delhi. Four stolen bikes were recovered from him.

The accused has been identified as Sameer, 24, a resident of Khichripur. Investigators traced the recovered vehicles back to three separate police station jurisdictions — Kalyanpuri, Patparganj Industrial Area, and Shaheen Bagh.

Part of a wider crackdown

The arrest comes as East District police step up efforts to clamp down on vehicle theft and dismantle networks behind such property crimes. As part of this drive, the Auto Theft Squad has been running increased surveillance, checking suspects, and gathering intelligence in areas known to be theft-prone — all aimed at curbing motor vehicle theft, snatching, and other street crime in the district.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of ACP (Operations) Pavan Kumar, with Inspector Anand Singh, who heads the Auto Theft Squad in East District, leading the team on ground.

The squad included SI Vikram Singh, SI Sandeep, SI Devender, ASI Rajiv Kumar, ASI Satyavir Singh, ASI Praveen, ASI Muninder Singh, Head Constables Vikrant and Ashwani, and Constable Manish.

How it happened

On July 6, police got a tip-off that a suspect wanted in several East Delhi theft cases would be passing through Khichripur on a stolen motorcycle. Acting on the input, the team laid a trap and intercepted him mid-ride. The accused tried to make a run for it but was caught after a short chase.

Checks later confirmed the motorcycle had been stolen from the area under Patparganj Industrial Area police station.

More recoveries after questioning

During interrogation, Sameer allegedly confessed to being involved in multiple vehicle thefts and pointed police to spots where he’d stashed more stolen bikes.

Acting on this, police recovered three more two-wheelers, which were later confirmed stolen from Kalyanpuri, Patparganj Industrial Area, and Shaheen Bagh police station areas.
